23rd National Statistics Month Celebration Schedule of Activities in Western Visayas



The Regional Statistical Coordination Committee in Western Visayas has already finalized activities for the 23rd National Statistics Month celebration this October. A fun run and “Hataw” will begin the month-long celebration, which will be participated by different government agencies and state universities and colleges in Iloilo at the Iloilo Sports Complex on October 1, 6:30 a.m. More details after the jump.

On October 2, more than 200 students and government employees are expected to join the Tree Planting-Urban Greening, which will be held in the municipality of Pavia, Iloilo.

The activity is in support of the National Greening Program of President Benigno Aquino that aims to plant 1.5 billion trees until 2016.

The opening ceremonies will take place on October 5 at the Mary Mart Mall, Iloilo City at 9 a.m.

An official from the Department of Labor and Employment, the host agency for this year’s celebration, was invited to be the guest speaker.

Some 18 government agencies have already signified their participation in the Statistical Exhibit focusing on this year’s theme, “Monitoring Progress on Decent Work through Statistics: Pathway to Inclusive Growth,” which will run from October 15 to 26 at SM City Activity Center.

There are also statistical contests lined up involving students in the region.

The Statistical Quiz sponsored by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) is open to high school students and is scheduled on October 18 while the Statistical Analysis Contest of the Commission on Higher Education for college students will be on October 19. Both contests will be held at the Regional Development Council (RDC) Hall of NEDA.

A Workshop on Statistics for Researchers and Data Analysts will be conducted by the Philippines Statistical Association Region 6 Chapter on October 22 to 24.

The three-day activity will allow 50 participants to have hands-on experience. It will be held at the Computer Laboratory of the Central Philippine University.

On October 25, the National Statistical Coordination Board 6 will spearhead the 11th Western Visayas Statistical Congress to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and experiences in the field of statistics and to discuss prevailing statistical developments, issues, programs and best practices. Expected participants of the congress which will be held at the CPU Library Conference Room are from the academe, government agencies, private sector and other interested stakeholders.

Another activity which is being looked forward to annually is the Search for the Best Statistical Board Data/Bulletin Board Contest participated in by government agencies and state schools. More or less 20 participants will join this year’s contest designed to provide relevant, timely and accurate data information to data users through displays of selected indicators.

To further enhance the awareness of the public on the celebration and the relevance of statistics in nation-building, NEDA-6 will also conduct other relevant activities such as a roundtable discussion with media and government information officers on the socio-economic situation of Region 6 on October 8 and a Regional Research Utilization Forum on October 9.

The announcement of winners in the contests will be done during the closing ceremonies on October 30 at Small Ville 21 to be hosted by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.

RSCC-6 Secretary and NSCB 6 Officer-in-Charge Nelida Losare said the activities, which are results of the close coordination and active support of the agencies and the private sector such as the PSA have greatly contributed to the successful holding of the NSM celebration in the past years in the region.

This year, Western Visayas is aiming for a Grand Slam as the Best NSM Region which the region won for the past two consecutive years. (JSC/LAF-PIA6, Iloilo)
