A new report on the Philippines’ economy from the global publishing firm Oxford Business Group (OBG) will bring investors up to date on the country’s diverse range of projects, which range from Post-Typhoon-Yolanda reconstruction initiatives in the Visayas region to a raft of ambitious ventures earmarked for the provinces.
The Report: The Philippines 2016 is set to explore the government’s plans for introducing more public-private partnerships (PPPs) as a means of accelerating the rolling out of its mega projects.
OBG’s team will also consider the key part that sound economic policies and higher levels of investment have played in helping the country to achieve rapid, broad-based growth, which is expected to hover around 6% for the remainder of the decade. Other focal points will include legal analysis of the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL), which paves the way for a basic government structure in the proposed autonomous political entity within the Philippines, and the latest developments in the peace efforts with Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
The accountants Punongbayan & Araullo (P&A) and the law firm SyCip Salazar Hernandez & Gatmaitan have both signed Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) once again on research with OBG for its forthcoming report on the Philippines’ economy. The industry experts will work with OBG to compile and produce the Law and Tax Chapters of The Report: The Philippines 2016. Both firms are longstanding partners of the Group, having made significant contributions to its reports on the Philippines over the years.
Managing Partner at SyCip Salazar, Hernandez & Gatmaitan, Rafael A. Morales, said the law firm looked forward to continuing its association with OBG “at a time when investors were likely to have many questions about important developments in the Philippines’ legal and regulatory framework, ahead of the launch of the ASEAN Economic Community”.
His comments were echoed by the Chairperson and CEO of P&A, Victoria C. Españo, who said she welcomed another year of partnership with OBG. “The Group’s publications are recognised as being an authoritative voice on emerging economies around the world, including the Philippines,” she said. “It will be a pleasure to share our analysis of the country’s tax regime with the publishing firm’s readers and provide them with a comprehensive understanding of the changes they need to know about.”
Welcoming both firms on board, OBG’s Country Director, Rosa Piro, said the Philippines’ impressive growth story had necessitated significant changes to the legal and tax frameworks. “Our partners have undoubtedly brought an added dimension to our reports over the years in the form of local knowledge and industry understanding,” she commented. “I am thrilled that we will benefit from their input once again.”
The Report: The Philippines 2016 will be a vital guide to the many facets of the country, including its macroeconomics, infrastructure, banking and other sectoral developments. It will contain interviews with leading representatives, including President Benigno Aquino III and the Secretary of Finance Cesar Purisima. The publication will be available in print or online.
