Magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck the Philippines! PHIVOLCS issues Tsunami Alert level 3!

A magnitude 7.6 earthquake just struck the Philippines on Friday, August 31, 2012 at 08:47PM (Philippine Time) at epicenter. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the magnitude 7.6 earthquake was detected at 94 kilometers east of Sulangan, Eastern Samar. The quake, which was 34.9 km deep, was felt in many parts of the country including Samar, Cagayan de Oro, Pagadian, Iligan, Dipolog, Ozamis, Cebu, Iloilo, Bukidnon, Davao, Quezon City, Surigao, Leyte and Bohol. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii also issue a tsunami alert warning for the Philippines, Indonesia, Belau, Yap island, Taiwan, Japan, Guam, Northern Marianas and Papua New Guinea. Update: (09/01/12) Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) lifted the Tsunami Alert at 12:10 AM on Saturday, September 1, 2012.
Update: (08/31/12) PHIVOLCS director Renato Solidum issued a Tsunami Alert level 3, indicating waves of one meter in height or more and called for possible evacuation in affected areas.
