Honda launches their flagship vehicle, the All-New Legend 3.5 Sport Hybrid SH-AWD
Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI), Honda’s automobile business unit in the Philippines debuts the All-New Legend 3.5 Sport Hybrid SH-AWD at the Solaire Grand Ballroom, Paranaque City. Honda’s new flagship model is available at Honda Cars Global City and Honda Cars Greenhills with suggested retail price of P4,380,000.
Revolving around “Smart Exhilarating Luxury” grand concept, this vehicle showcases Honda’s highest level of craftsmanship as it imprints its mark in the local luxury segment. The All-New Legend is a fusion of three customer values - pride and prestige of ownership, advanced features and technology, and exhilarating driving experience.
The Flagship's Superior Drive
Under the hood of the All-New Legend are Earth Dreams Technology V6 3.5 L direct injection i-VTEC with Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) engine and a 7-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT) with an integrated high-performance electric motor. At the rear a Twin Motor Unit (TMU) and an intelligent power unit equipped with high-power lithium-ion batteries are located. Each rear motor is independently controlled and can provide either drive or deceleration power to its wheel in any ratio. This technology is called the advanced torque vectoring system which provides highly stable handling performance in a wide range of driving situations. Lastly, placed at the center of the vehicle is a power drive unit that controls the three electric motors. These are the main components of the All-New Legend’s advanced hybrid system.
Furthermore, the advanced hybrid system automatically combines front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, or all-wheel drive with Engine drive, Electric Vehicle Drive or Hybrid drive as a response to the driver’s inputs and driving conditions to ensure optimal performance and outstanding fuel economy. Overall this powertrain delivers power similar to a V8 engine and a 4-cylinder like fuel economy.
An Array of Safety Systems and Convenience Functions
Another area where the All-New Legend shines is the amount of convenience and safety technology features put to it. Honda utilized an Advanced Driver-Assistive System called Honda SENSING in the All-New Legend. Using cutting-edge sensing technologies, Honda SENSING system aids the driver to prevent or effectively respond to dangerous driving situations.
The Honda SENSING system is a concrete development towards the realization of a collision-free society as part of Honda’s global safety vision where everyone can use the road safely.
This system receives information from two different devices. One is a millimeter-wave radar that can be found in the front grille and the other is a monocular camera mounted on the upper, inside part of the windshield.
Through these sensing devices, several new convenience and safety functions were applied in the All-New Legend such as Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low Speed Follow (LSF), and Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS).
The CMBS is a collision-preventive system. CMBS is designed to alert the driver when a potential collision is detected. Furthermore, this system also reduces the vehicle speed to help minimize collision severity when it is deemed unavoidable.
The ACC with LSF helps maintain constant vehicle speed and a set following interval behind a detected vehicle. Adding to that, LSF function allows the All-New Legend to follow the detected vehicle until a complete stop.
On the other hand, the LKAS provides steering input to help keep the vehicle in the middle of a detected lane. It also provides tactile and visual alerts if the driver is drifting out of its lane.
The LKAS visual alerts and ACC with LSF vehicle speed information can also be projected to the driver through the Honda Head Up Display. The Honda Head Up Display is located on the lower portion of the windshield directly in front of the driver. This new feature can also display the tachometer, and SH-AWD system operation.
Other vehicle safety systems that are standard in the All-New Legend are the Multi-view camera system with four wide angle cameras located on the front grille, right and left door mirrors and tailgate, Blind Spot Information (BSI), and Cross Traffic Monitor (CTM).
Additional safety features found in the All-New Legend are driver and front passenger airbags, driver and front passenger side airbags, side curtain airbags, and a driver’s knee airbag, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Front (2) and Rear (4) Parking Sensors, Emergency Stop Signal and a Pop Up Hood for pedestrian safety.
Design and Options
With all the advanced technologies and systems in place, Honda’s signature “man-maximum, machine-minimum” packaging design philosophy is very evident. The cabin feels roomier than what the numerical values state which is supplemented with acoustic glass windshield and window.
Likewise, the familiar Honda “Dual Personal Structure” interior concept was taken notches higher. It is fitted with premium, high quality, and soft touch materials throughout the cabin with tasteful application of luxurious wood and metal accents. Exquisite perforated black Milano leather seats come standard in the All-New Legend. Climate controlled 8-way power with 4-way lumbar seats are also standard for the driver and front passenger.
The All-New Legend is also equipped with a new fully electronic push-button gear selector that eliminates the conventional shift-lever. This allows the driver to easily select a drive mode with a push of a button and is supplemented with an Electric Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Brake Hold.
Other standard interior comfort and convenience amenities are smart entry with push start button, power tilt and telescoping steering, power sunroof, expanded rear door sunshade, and dual screens – an 8-inch Navigation screen and a 7-inch touch screen. The latter provides easy access to key functions such as air-conditioning, navigation and audio.
Furthermore, the All-New Legend has built-in ultra-premium Krell audio system which comes with 14 speakers and an amplifier that sets a new benchmark for high-fidelity sound in this luxury vehicle.
On the outside, the All-New Legend’s high-quality Jewel-Eye LED headlights grab attention. Its 8 LED bulbs and 16 precisely focused lenses result to better visibility on the road in any condition. The LED lighting technology was extended to the front and rear fog lights, turn signal lights and tail lamps.
Styling-wise, the All-New Legend presents itself with an “aero-fused” exterior motif. Its body features a low, wide and athletic stance. On the side, sharp upswept bodylines create a stylish yet dynamic appeal. An aggressive, cleverly designed and engineered 19-inch Noise-Reducing Alloy Wheels complete the commanding look.
The All-New Legend is readily available in three colors: Crystal Black Pearl, White Orchid Pearl and Super Platinum Metallic with Black Milano Leather interior. Other exterior colors such as Gilded Pewter Metallic, Pomegranate Pearl and Graphite Luster Metallic are available upon order.
