Sony unveils the Xperia sola: The first smartphone with a "floating touch" navigation

Sony just unveiled the Xperia sola aka the Pepper, as the latest addition to its portfolio of Android powered Xperia smartphones. The Xperia sola is the first smartphone to come with Sony's unique "floating touch" navigation. It lets you navigate the web by hovering your finger above the screen so it acts like a moving curser, without actually having to touch the screen. Once the desired link is found it can be highlighted and a simple tap will load the page.

The Sony Xperia sola comes with a dual-core 1GHz processor, 3.7-inch FWVGA (480x854) Reality display with mobile BRAVIA technology, Android 2.3 Gingerbread (upgradable to Android 4.0 during summer of 2012), 8GB of internal storage, microSD up to 32GB, 5-megapixel auto-focus camera with 720p video capture, WiFi, Bluetooth, DNLA, aGPS, NFC, Xperia SmartTags, 1320 mAh battery, stereo speakers with xLOUD and 3D surround sound audio technology.

The price of the device is still unknown at this time and will be available to consumers globally in black, white and red in the second quarter of 2012.
