Teradata introduces Unified Data Architecture in the Philippines

Teradata recently introduced Teradata Unified Data Architecture. The Teradata Unified Data Architecture is a framework for organizations to address all types of data and multiple Teradata systems. The Teradata Unified Data Architecture leverages the complementary value of best-in-class technologies from Teradata, Teradata Aster, and open source Apache Hadoop, to enable business users to ask any question, against any data, with any analytic, at any time. More details after the jump.

The announcement includes new software - Teradata Viewpoint, Teradata Connector, and Teradata Vital Infrastructure, and new hardware - Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance 2700 and the recently announced Teradata Aster Big Analytics Appliance. Utilizing the Teradata Unified Data Architecture, organizations can now deploy, support, manage, and seamlessly access all their data in an integrated and dynamic big data analytic architecture. Teradata’s integration of these technologies creates value which is more than the sum of the individual components.

According to Stephen Brobst, Teradata Chief Technology Officer, organizations face obstacles in building effective unified big data environments, because these environments are difficult to deploy, and hard to manage with new types of data and multiple systems. Providing access to timely business insights is problematic.

To respond to this need, Teradata has introduced the Teradata Unified Data Architecture that brings together multiple technologies including Aster SQL-MapReduce, Aster SQL-H and best-of-breed partner tools into a cohesive and transparent architecture. The environment is supported, optimized, architected, and delivered by new and existing Teradata, Teradata Aster, and Apache Hadoop technology.

“The easy access to these powerful technologies further enables customers to discover big data insights,” said Brobst. “There are tremendous opportunities in the analytic data solutions environment, and Teradata has the intelligence that companies require to leverage on big diverse data.”

Just recently, Teradata was positioned as a leader in the 2013 Gartner, Inc. Magic Quadrant for Data Warehouse Database Management Systems for the fourteenth consecutive year. This Gartner report positions vendors based on vision and execution in the growing and competitive data warehouse DBMS market.

“We are pleased that Gartner has recognized us as leader in terms of vision for the logical data warehouse and our Unified Data Architecture – that combines Teradata, Teradata Aster and Hadoop technology, and is complemented by our Teradata Unity portfolio. Gartner’s assessment of Teradata’s leadership validates our strategy and market strength,” said Brobst.

In the Philippines, big diverse data is slowly becoming a buzzword as the volume of detailed information generated by enterprises, multimedia, social media and the Internet—among many others—have significantly increased. A recent report by International Data Corporation (IDC) said that the big data technology and services market represents a fast-growing, multibillion-dollar worldwide opportunity.

“A boon for big data analytics would sure follow,” said Teradata Philippines country manager Lyndon Lacanienta. “As we slowly adapt to big diverse data, local businesses are now looking for more advanced analytics capability that would mean greater business advantage for them.”
