Smart, IdeaSpace invite developers to hack their way into Silicon Valley

Smart Communications and IdeaSpace Foundation are encouraging developers to hack their way into Silicon Valley by joining the Philippine leg of the AngelHack Spring Global Challenge, the world's largest coding marathon to date. More details after the jump.

Winners of the local June 8 to 9 hackathon to be held at the Pasig City headquarters of Smart subsidiary Voyager Innovations will get a chance to win hundreds of thousands of dollars in prizes, will receive local mentorship for 11 weeks, and will be flown to Silicon Valley where US-based AngelHack will help turn their big idea into a startup.

Philippine-based  developers can form a group of up to five persons and get early bird tickets at http://bit.ly/angelhackmanila

The local leg (#AngelHackMNL), co-presented by the Smart Developer Network (Smart DevNet) and IdeaSpace, is part of a global hackathon which is expected to bring in more than 10,000 developers in 32 cities in Asia Pacific, North America, South America, and Europe.

“Manila is a hotbed for developer talent, not just in Southeast Asia, but worldwide. I'm super stoked to see who will win,” said AngelHack cofounder and CEO Greg Gopman.

Winners of the global challenge will be invited to present their startup at the Global Demo Day in Silicon Valley this September, which will be attended by investors, influencers, and media. In this event, 10 of the participating teams will be given booths at the September 7 to 11 TechCrunch Disrupt event in San Francisco, the number one startup conference in the world.

Smart DevNet has been organizing and sponsoring numerous hackathons and developer meetups since its launch in mid-2012. Business incubator IdeaSpace, which is backed by Smart and other companies, recently named the 10 startups it would support through seed funding and mentorship.
