Senior citizens in Iloilo City can now enjoy FREE movie admissions in cinemas every Tuesday!

Senior citizens in Iloilo City can now enjoy free movies every Tuesday in cinemas following the distribution of their booklets Monday which serve as passes upon entering theaters in the metropolis. According to Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog, such privilege benefits senior citizens and gives them opportunity to enjoy and be entertained. He turned over 15,000 booklets to Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) head Gerry Canonero for distribution.

The City Council earlier gave Mabilog authority to enter into any and all agreements with cinemas management to promote free admission.

This, after the approval of Regulation Ordinance No. 2013-041 “establishing guidelines to facilitate and promote free movie admissions of senior citizens at movie houses, cinemas and theaters in the city.”

It prescribes that “all senior citizens holding their Identification Card and a specially designed movie pass issued by OSCA shall enjoy the privilege of free movie admission with all cinemas here provided that they must be a resident for at least one year and a registered voter of the city.”

Every qualified senior citizen shall be allowed to avail of free movie privilege following conditions that the admission shall be limited to one movie every Tuesday only.

The free movie pass is not available during the first week of opening screening, first two weeks screening of Metro Manila Film Festival, special and regular holidays, and 3D movies.

“The ageing population mostly has limited means to enjoy life to fullest as they are usually dependent on their children for support. In partnership with the City Government, cinemas management agreed to extend the privilege to senior citizens,” the ordinance stated.

Senior citizens have big role in moral and social cultural well-being of the city. Thus, they are being recognized with the provisions of benefits and privileges for their recreation, fun and wellness projects to make them feel the City Government cares for them.
