Canon, a world leader in digital imaging, reaches out to discerning new users with two new additions to its acclaimed EOS range: the EOS 1200D DSLR with the EF-S18-55mm IS II lens and the Macro Ring Lite MR-14 EX II. More after the jump.

“The entry-level EOS 1200D is based on the technology of Canon’s line of professional EOS cameras, with no compromise on image quality. This interchangeable lens camera offers any photographer better control, better images and access to superior technology,” said Vinchy Sanchez, Canon Marketing Philippines’ VP for imaging Communications Products Division.

“With the rise of casual photography, Canon knows that the amateur photographer demands high quality images while allowing him more control over his photography style. This camera is designed for the discerning new user,” he said.

The sleek new EOS 1200D offers amateur photographers and hobbyists a lot of options to help hone their skills. Although user-friendly, the DSLR combines Canon’s powerful DIGIC 4 imaging processor with an 18-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor which produces stunning photographs where details are sharper and the popular background blur effect can be easily achieved.

With an ISO range of 100 to 6400 (expandable to 12800), the EOS 1200D produces beautiful images with low noise even in low light environment.

Accurate and fast focusing with Optical Viewfinder
Taking photos on a DSLR uses an optical viewfinder unlike on a smartphone or a compact camera. The EOS 1200D possesses a highly-accurate nine-point Auto Focus (AF) system with center cross-type AD point, enabling accurate and rapid focusing on both horizontal and vertical planes. The nine-point AF system also gives users more freedom to frame shots even when the subject is off-center and AI Servo AF helps predict where a moving subject is going, so the subject is always keeping it in focus.

Easy-to-use features
Featuring the Scene Intelligent Auto, the EOS 1200D empowers users to operate the camera even in tricky lighting conditions. It is capable of recognizing the type of scene being shot based on color, brightness, contrast and distance, and will automatically adjust itself to optimal settings.

For those who like to play with creative effects, the EOS 1200D comes with a range of Creative Filters that can be previewed on the LCD before taking the photo. Filters include Grainy Black and White and the distorted fish-eye effect, among others. With the handy Feature Guide enabled, all functions can be explained to the user through the camera’s LCD, helping users learn about their camera without referring to an operating manual.

Superior video capability
For aspiring movie makers, the EOS 1200D captures Full HD movies at up to 30 fps. Videos are shot with background blur effects and incorporate a higher dynamic range which cannot be achieved by a smartphone. In low light situations, the EOS 1200D is still able to shoot videos at ISO speeds of up to 6400.

Ergonomic layout
Aside from the features, the EOS 1200D’s body and layout will not alienate new users. Its buttons and key function controls are laid out in a way that ensures ease-of-use. In addition, when shooting with the viewfinder, users will be presented with information such as shutter speed and ISO the moment the subject is locked in focus.

The camera’s large three-inch LCD monitor allows easy reviewing of photographs. This large screen also provides a good view of scenes during Live View shooting. Furthermore, the EOS 1200D consists of a textured finished coating, giving the camera a classy look and feel. With a metallic mode dial, a rubber grip ensures a secure hold.

Macro Ring Lite MR-14 EX II: Macro photography made easy
Coming on the heels of the successful MR-14EX is the Macro Ring Lite MR-14 EX II, which is developed by Canon to assist amateur photographers, beginners and even business owners who prefer to take their own product shots, making macro photography easier and enjoyable.

Attached to end of the lens barrel, the MR-14 EX II is suitable for shooting close range subjects without the dreaded vignetting effect. The flat lighting generated by this flash covers the entire subject, making it evenly lit with hardly any shadows. For dark environments, a focusing lamp is incorporated to help the camera focus accurately on the subject.

This latest version boasts of a cleaner interface with minimal buttons, a user-friendly selection dial and an easy to read LCD panel. The connection cord is now located on the left side of the camera, avoiding the shutter button and other frequently-used controls on the right side of the camera. Recycling time has been made much faster, taking only 5.5 seconds or less to fully charge compared to the earlier version. Users now have the option to fire the flash even before it is fully charged, so that urgent photo opportunities will not be missed.

In addition, the aforementioned focusing lamp uses a high intensity white LED for greater brightness. A bundled lens cap can now be attached to the ring flash, providing users with additional assurance when carrying the camera around.
