Creative Research Category Regional Winner: Hydroxy Metal Cutting and Welding Machine

Three (3) out of 86 entries will advance to the National Invention Contest to be held during the celebration of the 2016 National Science and Technology Week (NSTW).

Victorio G. Baldovia of Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT-U) emerged as the Regional Winner for the Creative Research Category with his invention “Hydroxy Metal Cutting and Welding Machine”.

As for the Sibol Award College Category, University of San Agustin’s solo entry entitled “Potato Peel Agar as a Potential Selective Culture Medium for Staphylococcus Aureus” invented by Pamela Michelle Reyes, Maria Erika Sumayo, Fledge Supapo, Katrina April Taclas, Mary Faith Talanas, John Vancouver Timon, Alfredo Valencia, and Joseph Villareal garnered First Place.

The “Improvised Plastic Incinerator: A Prototype With Built-In High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) Filtration System” developed by Negros Occidental National Science High School students Paul Anthony Debuque, Mary Welone Brillantes, and Riva Jeane May Caburog was hailed as the Regional Winner for the Sibol Award High School Category.

The board of judges are composed of key officials from the academe, government and private organizations in Western Visayas.

Winners received cash, trophy, and certificates. The conduct of RICE is pursuant to Section 4 of the Republic Act 7459 otherwise known as “Inventors and Invention Incentives Act of the Philippines”. Moreover, DOST-Technology Application Promotion Institute (TAPI) has been providing assistance to inventors since the promulgation of the Act in 1992.

This year’s contest has gathered researches and inventions from state universities and colleges, science high schools, public and private institutions all over the region. (DOSTVI-LMLamasan)
