vivo Y16 Long-Term Review: Why it’s still a strong contender this holiday season!
Christmas is around the corner and we Filipinos celebrate it as the longest holiday season in the world. To Filipinos, Christmas season may be many things -- a reunion with friends and families, a break from work, or a ti me to go home to the province.
Filipinos, whatever age they are in, are fond of capturing their memories with new trends coming out such as FB live, TikTok dance challenges, IG reels, etc.
As part of vivo’s “Memory is Priceless” campaign which harps on the importance of keeping and creating more memories, the vivo Y16 is the perfect smartphone to capture treasured memories and do fun virtual activities for the holidays with its massive storage capacity, long-lasting battery power, and trendy design.
Since using it for the past two months, here are the features that I like most about the vivo Y16 and why it is still a strong contender this holiday season:
Massive Storage and Long-Lasting Battery
During our recent out-of-town holiday trip, the memories that I collected with the important people in my life needed an impressive storage capacity so I can keep numerous photos and videos while making room for more. Luckily, one of vivo Y16’s main highlights is its enormous storage capacity of 128GB. There’s also a 64GB variant, but it is best to get the 128GB variant.
It even supports a memory expansion of up to 1TB via a dedicated microSD card slot. Now, you can save all the photos and videos you’ve taken from years ago on your vivo Y16 without the need to delete files for memory space.
In addition to its massive storage, the vivo Y16 has a 5,000mAh battery capacity, which gave me peace of mind during my out-of-town trips and holiday shopping. The vivo Y16 also comes with 18W fast charging and has a 5V/1A reverse charging feature which makes it possible for the device to act as a power bank.
Big Screen and Security
The vivo Y16 comes with a 6.51-inch HD+ IPS display with smart brightness adjustment which filters harmful blue light and minimizes eye strain. Since my usage of the vivo Y16 will be maximized during this holiday season due to gaming and watching videos, it is great that the vivo Y16 has that kind of eye protection.
In terms of security, the vivo Y16 is equipped with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor that is embedded in the power button. The side-mounted sensor is a very convenient and quick security feature you can trust.
Ergonomic and Trendy Design
Even after two months of using the device, the composite material and glass-like texture held well against daily wear. Since the trendy design of the vivo Y16 never wanes even after long-term use and when illuminated by the various lights of the holiday vibes, the Drizzling Gold color of my vivo Y16 is a perfect match for this holiday season.
The vivo Y16 can also easily fit in one’s pocket (handy), especially for people who are always on the go this holiday season. Thanks to its thickness of 8.19mm, 2.5D curvature, and a right-angled frame.
Reliable Performance
The vivo Y16 comes with 4GB of RAM and supports Extended RAM 2.0 technology that lets you expand your phone's RAM virtually by using the phone's internal storage. Vivo Y16 can make use of 1GB of its internal storage, giving it up to 5GB of total RAM.
The vivo Y16 also comes with Ultra Game Mode and Multi-Turbo 5.5 which prevents lags and stuttering in games through smart allocation and prioritization of CPU and memory even with multiple applications running.
After two months of using the vivo Y16, its performance is still isn’t the snappiest or the most responsive, but it’s still reliable for capturing moments, multitasking during the holiday rush of online shopping, and supporting the various games me and my family can enjoy. Just take note that this isn’t a gaming-focused smartphone so don’t expect too much from it.
Decent Cameras and Picture Support
The vivo Y16 is the perfect smartphone to capture treasured memories this holiday season. The device boasts a dual-camera set-up—consisting of the 13MP F2.2 primary camera with Phase Detection autofocus (PDAF). There's also a 2MP F2.4 macro lens with a 4cm shooting distance.
Quality from the rear cameras under bright lighting conditions is pretty good. However, for low light, the vivo Y16 doesn’t have night mode and is generally a poor performer.
Taking selfies when it's dark? No problem. The vivo Y16 5MP F2.2 selfie camera comes with Aura Screen Light that turns on during those dark moments. This feature is very helpful since this holiday season we are always out at night, exploring festive lights and this is also useful during the upcoming simbang gabi.

Fun Touch OS (Based on Android 12)
The vivo Y16 runs on Funtouch OS 12, based on Android 12 out of the box. Funtouch OS 12 is a seamless, clean, and pretty UI that is easy to navigate.

After using it for months and given its price and various competition, the vivo Y16 is still a strong contender with its massive internal storage, 5,000mAh battery capacity, reliable performance, and decent cameras.
