realme 12+ 5G Unboxing and First Impression
Following the global launch of the realme 12 Pro Series 5G in January, realme Philippines has finally revealed that it will be bringing the realme 12+ 5G as part of the realme 12 Series 5G. This new model, with the addition of the "+" symbol, signifies realme's commitment to providing ultimate value within the mid-range smartphone segment.
The realme 12+ 5G is equipped with a 50MP Sony LYT600 OIS camera, a MediaTek Dimensity 7050 processor, 5G connectivity, and a 5,000mAh battery with a 67W SUPERVOOC charger. It also features design elements inspired by the luxury watch industry.
I was fortunate enough to have one in my possession, and I am excited to share my unboxing experience and initial impressions of the device. So, let's begin with the unboxing.
Unboxing the realme 12+ 5G
The packaging for the realme 12+ 5G comes in the brand's signature yellow-colored box, as expected. The front of the box displays the branding, while the back portion contains important details such as the model number, IMEI number, serial number, color, and four key features of the realme 12+ 5G.
Inside the Box and Accessories
When you open the box, you will find realme's newest slogan, "Make it real." In addition, there is a pack containing a SIM card ejector tool, a protective silicone case, a quick start guide, and important product information, including the Warranty Card.
Beneath the pack was the realme 12+ 5G smartphone, wrapped in white matte plastic. Below, I found the 67W SUPERVOOC charger and a USB type-C to USB-A charging cable. Please note that the realme 12+ 5G smartphone does not come with headphones, so you will need to use your own.
Now that I have unboxed everything, I will take a closer look at the physical features of the device and share my first impression of it with you.
Design and Walk Around
As part of its tradition of showcasing exceptional design in its smartphones, the realme 12+ 5G incorporates design elements from the luxury watch industry, creating a new language for smartphone design.
The phone was co-designed with Ollivier Savéo, an international luxury watch design expert who has worked with various Swiss watch brands. He infused refined elements from his craft into the device's overall design, including a classic Polished Sunburst Dial, Golden Fluted Bezel, and a 3D Jubilee Bracelet that evokes the look and feel of a custom premium watch.
The back of the phone has a Premium Vegan Leather finish that provides a silk-like texture, is dirt-resistant, and has a high-end feel. The realme 12+ 5G is available in two colors - Pioneer Green and Navigator Beige.
In addition to its design, the device is also extremely thin at 7.87mm with a width of 7.4mm for easy handling and weighs only 190 grams despite a 5,000mAh battery capacity.
The realme 12+ 5G boasts a 6.67-inch FHD+ (2400 x 1080) AMOLED E4 display on its front, featuring a 120Hz Refresh Rate and a 240Hz Touch Sampling Rate.
To make the display more durable, it uses 0.68mm Secondary Tempered High Strength Glass. The display has a centered hole-punch 16MP camera on the top and a thin and discreetly etched earpiece above it.
On the back, there's a large protruding camera module that houses the triple-camera setup along with a single LED flash. The three cameras are the 50MP main, 8MP wide-angle, and 2MP macro.
The right side features the standard volume rocker and power buttons, while the top has the 3.5mm audio jack, the secondary noise-canceling microphone, and a speaker grille.
At the bottom, you'll find the USB Type-C charging port, downward-firing speaker, primary microphone, and hybrid SIM tray. The hybrid SIM tray can be used to hold either a second SIM card or a microSD card for expandable storage.
Internals
The realme 12+ 5G boasts a MediaTek Dimensity 7050 5G that adopts the advanced 6nm production process and houses 2 Cortex-A78 cores, 6 Cortex-A55 cores, and a Mali-G68 MC4 GPU. It also comes with either 8Gb or 12GB of RAM with Dynamic RAM Expansion (DRE) and will be available in one storage variant - 256GB storage.
The realme 12+ 5G comes with realme UI 5.0 based on Android 14. The realme 12+ 5G has a 5,000mAh battery and 67W SUPERVOOC Charge technology to complement the overall specs of the smartphone.
Cameras
The realme 12+ 5G promises outstanding photography performance with its triple-camera set-up. It features a 50MP Sony LYT600 primary camera. There's also an 8MP F2.2 112° wide-angle and a 2MP macro lens. On the front, it houses a 16MP F2.45 in-display selfie camera.
The realme 12+ 5G uses Sony LYT sensors, which are a new line of sensors from Sony. These sensors are similar to Sony IMX Sensors and are known for their large sensor sizes that allow a high level of light intake. The sensor size is 1/1.95”, and it has a 26mm focal length and an F1.88 Aperture. Additionally, the camera supports Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and has up to 2x In-Sensor.
realme also teamed up with Claudio Miranda, the Oscar-winning cinematographer, to create a set of three image enhancement filters called "Master Portrait Filters," which were inspired by his award-winning films.
