Starmobile Crystal vs. Starmobile Astra: Specs Fight!

Starmobile has finally launched its newest Android Phone with a 4.5-inch qHD IPS display and an 8MP BSI camera called Starmobile Crystal, while the Starmobile Astra is the first Android smartphone from Starmobile that features a mobile TV and a 1GHz dual-core processor. With that a lot of people are asking which is better between the two? So, aside from their looks, can you really tell the difference between the two? If not, let’s look at their specs side-by-side after the jump.

If you can see both the Starmobile Crystal and the Starmobile Astra have the same processor, RAM, internal storage and both have GPU's that can play Angry Birds, Bad Piggies, Temple Run and is compatible with Adobe Flash, but the Starmobile Crystal edges the Starmobile Astra with its superior 8MP backside illumination (BSI) camera, 2MP front camera, 4.5-inch qHD IPS display and a bigger battery capacity, while the Starmobile Astra only edges the Starmobile Crystal with its analog TV tuner (mobile TV), Tri-band GSM connectivity and its price!

Now, which phone wins the fight?

Note:
A back-illuminated sensor (BSI), is a type of digital image sensor that uses a novel arrangement of the imaging elements to increase the amount of light captured and thereby improve low-light performance. The technique was used for some time in specialized roles like low-light security cameras and astronomy sensors, but was complex to build and required further refinement to become widely used.

  2. I'm very happy with my Astra. The only problems I have are the camera
performance during night-time or indoor, and the battery. The built-in
LED flash is virtually useless. Maganda lang ito kumuha ng pictures
kapag maliwanag ang paligid. Tsaka kapag adik sa games, kailangang
mag-charge agad. But the graphics are awesome! Regarding the apps
opening on its own, na-experience ko rin ito, pero I blame it on the
responsive capacitive touchscreen, kaya careful na ako sa paghawak,
Kahit kasi hindi pa sumayad finger ko nagrerespond na. That's how bongga
the touch screen is. I went to the service center sa kapitolyo to
recalibrate the analog TV kasi hindi maka-pick up ng channel. At nakuha
ko naman agad-agad. May nakasabay pa akong nagpa-service ng Engage niya,
mukhang happy naman siya...hindi ko nakausap pero naka-smile naman siya
when he left. I found the Astra super-super sulit, over-over sa
expectations given the price niya. Kaya dedma na ako sa two problems I
mentioned earlier. Super mura na nga eh, gusto ko pa ng perfect na
phone? Hehe. I got way more than my money's worth sa Astra. My brother
and some friends are planning to get Astra na rin when they saw mine and
    tried it.

  3. good thing that starmobile have improved their camera.. i hope the image quality of that camera can be comparable with other high end devices with 8MP cams :)
well, we can be contented with its overall build and specs perhaps, if there's a jelly bean update..

  5. I bought a starmobile astra last DEcember 10, 2012, now the unit is experiencing unresponsive touch screen, like it has a world of its own, opening apps without me touching it. I am not a heavy user, hanggang text and call lang ako, mobile internet at hindi ako masyado hilig sa games. Medyo I have regrets bakit pa ako bumili ng starmobile, meron naman ibang Philippine made diyan na proven and tested na. I have availed the warranty for the unit and right now im still waiting for them to return the product in good condition.
