Earth Day Network app now available on Android and IOS devices

Environment advocates can now access the resource site of the Earth Day Network Philippines, Inc. (EDNP) via their mobile phones. With the mobile app now available on both Android and IOS, more cellphone users can check out the latest news from EDNP, the largest network of companies, groups, individuals with a common goal of raising awareness to protect and conserve the environment.

"This mobile app will help EDNP expand its reach in raising further public awareness on the need to protect the environment,” said Ramon Isberto, head of Smart’s Public Affairs Group.

“We are hoping that this mobile phone app’s feature reminding you to do smart acts for the planet each day would encourage a shift in people’s lifestyles to one that is more earth-friendly,” added Isberto.

"This new partnership in bringing about the Earth Day Philippine app not only attests to this vibrant partnership but also to the corporate citizenship that Smart has in relation to our environmental action," said EDNPI executive director Voltaire Alferez.

Called Earth Day Philippines, the easy-to-use mobile application features a mirror image of the EDNP resource site, http://earthdayphilippines.org.

It has features like a daily 'green' tip to remind the user to make this part of his/her everyday life to help save the environment. The app also maps out where EDNP activities will be held all over the country based on the calendar of events found on the website.

A special feature is a localized carbon footprint calculator. This lets the user know the amount of greenhouse gases directly emitted to the atmosphere when one does day-to-day activities like riding a jeepney.

The app will also have a donation facility for EDNP using platforms like Smart Money, the telco's pioneering mobile payments platform.

Smart has tapped mobile app partner and startup, Orange Fix, to develop the app, which was donated to EDNP as part of the telco’s support to the group.

It may be downloaded for free via Google Play Store for Android devices (search for Earthday Network) and the App Store for iPhone users (search for Earthday Philippines).

EDNP has over 2,000 members from various sectors of the Philippine society that are advocating for the protection and conservation of Mother Earth. It is the lead proponent for the Earth Day celebration in the Philippines, also celebrated in 150 other countries by over a billion people worldwide.

Smart, a staunch advocate for the environment is one of the members of the network along with parent, PLDT Group.
