Fortinet addresses latest cyber threats at quarterly channel workshop

Fortinet recently conducted its Quarterly Channel Workshop Series at the Edsa Shangri-La Hotel. The seminar was attended by Fortinet resellers and partners who learned about securing networks against cyber threats, particularly Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) and web application attacks.

The workshop was facilitated by Fortinet Philippines’ Channel Account Manager Armi Caagbay Zafra and Systems Engineer Angelo Castro II. Topics discussed include the latest trends in DDoS and web attacks, the efficacy and sufficiency of firewalls and Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS) against threats, and differences between firewalls, IPS and DDoS mitigation appliances. The program also included an in-depth look at how Fortinet’s FortiDDoS and FortiWeb solutions can safeguard web services and assets, a growing concern among IT experts and practitioners.

Hacking has been on the rise globally, with many government organizations, banks, and large multinational companies being targeted.  A DDoS attack is one such form, which is an attempt to disrupt or suspend indefinitely the services of a host connected to the Internet. Besides temporary disruption, an unsecured network infrastructure is vulnerable to malware, data loss, and theft of confidential information, which can result in significant monetary losses for an organization.

Fortinet has developed a suite of products and subscription services that provide broad, integrated and high-performance protection against such security threats. In particular, FortiDDoS is a range of scalable and high-performance DDoS attack mitigation appliances that protect Internet-facing infrastructure from threats and service disruptions. Equipped with sophisticated filtering technologies, FortiDDoS appliances are interoperable with any existing security technologies and infrastructure. Key capabilities include threat mitigation, containment and source tracking.

Meanwhile, FortiWeb Web Application Firewalls provide specialized and layered application threat protection against malicious sources, SQL injection and cross-site scripting. It ensures security of sensitive database content and allows for real-time data analysis of web application usage from multiple vectors and map requests for geographic location. FortiWeb platforms prevent identity theft, financial fraud and denial of service for medium to large companies, application service providers and SaaS providers.
