Sony rolls out Android 4.4 KitKat update for Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z1 compact

KitKat-powered Smartphones are gradually coming out of the market, and now, tech companies are also releasing software updates for some of their units. In line with that, Sony recently announced a software update – which includes Android 4.4 KitKat, for their Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z1 compact. More details after the jump.

Xperia users can expect the following updates:

  • Google’s Android KitKat brings performance and user interface optimization.
  • Improvement with the Status Bar and Quick Settings that is now more intuitive and customizable.
  • New animation and livewallpaper on lock and home screens.
  • Improvements in Sony App portfolio that such as Messaging, MyXperia, Smart Connect, Small apps, TRackID, TrackID TV, Sony Select, and Smart Social Camera.
  • WALKMAN, Album and Movies, with the Sony Entertainment Network Cloud service integrations that provides a more converged and full Sony entertainment experience.
  • Sony Entertainment Network and PlayMemories integration with a more intuitive user experience and better download speeds.
  • Xperia Themes with downloadable UI packs from Sony Select – over 280 varieties of styles.

Sony also announces that they will be rolling out the Android 4.4 KitKat update for Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia ZR by mid-Q2. The newly announced smartphones like the Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia E1 and Xperia M2 will also have KitKat updates soon.
